Holy Spirit from Theophany

Dear Reverend Fathers and Friends,

Having come to the completion of celebrating our Patronal Feast, we look ahead to the third anniversary of the repose of our Theophany School founder, Sonia Daly Belcher, on February 20.  In honor of her memory, we are pleased to announce that the Voice of the Lord: Selected Hymns from the Feast of Theophany is now available on iTunes and Liturgica.com for purchase and instant download.

In the wake of Sonia’s falling asleep in the Lord, the Theophany School launched a campaign to realize Sonia’s dream of expanding into a full-scale elementary school for the Orthodox Christian children of the Boston area.  As part of the Building on a Dream campaign, Sonia's friends from the seminary and the Boston area came together under the name "Friends of Theophany School" and recorded a CD of the hymns of the Patronal Feast Day of the school entitled The Voice of the Lord.  The hymns are chanted in a traditional Byzantine style utilizing English arrangements composed by Hieromonk Ephraim of St. Anthony's Monastery in Arizona and the translations of Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Please consider a purchase of this CD for your chanters and choir to prepare for next year’s feast and to help the cause of building Sonia’s dream for Theophany School.  And please remember Sonia in your prayers this month and always.

With love in Christ,

Deacon Nicholas Belcher

What's the Buzz?

The CD has received many positive reviews from specialists in Byzantine music, such as the following:

The performance is just terrific. The immediate impact is that the ephos (or feel) is that of a small monastic choir, like Vatopedi or Simonopetra. The choir has a nice balance of voices, which work together well. The execution of the hymns is top notch - both good performance and edification at the same time.

- Benjamin Williams of Liturgica.com

This fine recording in English will inspire many people to appreciate the beauty of traditional, choral Byzantine chant.

- Heiromonk Ephraim of St. Anthony's Monastery

A loving tribute to a lovely lady, Sonia Daly Belcher, [it] is probably the best recording of its kind that I have heard…

- Hieromonk Seraphim Dedes
